Our History

The history of Equal Voices goes back over 20 years. Conductor Rita Scheffers from Weert founded a children’s choir and a teen choir in the The Good Shepherd parish church in the district Groenewoud in Weert. The goal was to sing at church services. It was a time when many choirs in Weert arose. The choirs were however increasing. By the end of the 90’s it was decided to set up a new structure. The older members of the children’s Groenewoud and members of the teen choir went into a new choir: Equal Voices youth choir. This choir was part of a newly created foundation (see SKG). From that moment, Equal Voices is as we know it nowadays. The choir is clearly focused on the profane (secular) music, supported by fun projects and original performances.
